I have been saying for several months that it’s time for me to step down as Chairperson. This week I had the honor to nominate Lisa Flores-Johnson as our new Chairperson – and the vote was unanimously in favor!
It’s been my honor to serve as chair for the last 5 years and I’ve been especially proud of several things that the organization has been able to achieve in that time.
- We successfully shifted our membership to align with League of Michigan Bicyclists in order keep your membership dollars advocating for biking right here in Michigan.
- We helped make the new trails at Proud Lake and the Bandlands at Island Lake possible while still doing small expansions and updates to our other trails.
- We had two of our biggest fundraising years in the last two years – which also means we spent the most on trails in the last two years.
- And organizationally, we established more consistent board strategy and planning. This has helped us stay focused on what’s important.
Again, thanks to everyone who helped to make these possible. I just helped grease the skids where I could, but it’s really volunteers that makes this work happen!
So with that, I’d like to introduce Lisa Flores-Johnson as your new MCMBA Chairperson!
Lisa Flores-Johnson – Our New Chairperson
Lisa has experience as chair of other organizations, but perhaps most notably, you have likely seen her helping to organize the Milford Bike Fest and she serves as a coach for our beginner clinics. Lisa has been serving on the board for 3 and a half years. I am extremely excited to see where she leads us!

Melissa Colflesh – Our New Secretary
In addition to Lisa, the board also voted unanimously in favor of adding Melissa Colflesh as our new Secretary. Melissa has been on the board for about a year, but has had an immediate impact on the board by volunteering to help organize new events, lead efforts to advocate for a new trail opportunity (more to come on that hopefully!), and also leads as a coach for our clinics with Lisa.

Lisa and Melissa join Wayne Catafano who continues on as our financial steward (Treasurer), and I’m moving to the Vice Chair role for a short duration to help with the transition. A big thank you goes out to Jason Martin and Brian Rumohr who are stepping down from their roles as Vice Chair and Secretary, respectively. Jason, especially, has served on the executive committee for as long as I’ve been on the board and in that role, has had a significant impact on membership and management of our org. We appreciate all you both have done to support trails!
Again, thanks for letting me serve as Chair of this terrific organization! See you on the trails!
Cheers,
Dave
